"The Darkness" by Counter... Just Listen to it, Turn It Up, Let The Darkness In (Single Review)

BY STEVE THIRIOT

In the realm of modern hard rock, it's easy to get lost in the noise—both literal and metaphorical. That's why when a song like "The Darkness" by Counter comes along, you can't help but take notice. Hailing from Western NC, the band has offered up a transcendent sonic experience that is sure to satisfy your craving for new music.

For starters Amy Olsen's vocals are the nucleus around which the entire song revolves. Her lush vocal harmonies add layers of complexity and emotion, making the chorus not just catchy but also profoundly moving.

The rhythm section, featuring Travis Whisnant on bass and Eli Roscoe on drums, is simply spectacular. Travis's bass lines are intricate yet tasteful, serving as the backbone of the song. Eli's drumming adds texture and dynamics, making ample use of cymbal splashes and double-bass kicks to accentuate the song's heavier sections. The duo's chemistry is undeniable, and their driving rhythms provide the perfect platform for the guitars to shine. Lead guitarist Mike Fox delivers a virtuosic performance, especially in the song's climactic solo. His deft fingerwork and impeccable sense of melody elevate the track into a hard rock anthem. Meanwhile, Seth's rhythm guitar lays down meaty riffs that add grit and power, tying the composition together seamlessly.

"The Darkness" is an aural masterpiece that showcases each member of Counter's immense talent while cohesively uniting them into something far greater. It captures the essence of what modern hard rock can be: emotional, complex, and unapologetically real. This song not only stands as a testament to Counter's potential but also elevates the genre to new heights. In a world that often feels consumed by darkness, this track is a flicker of light, illuminating the path for those who dare to venture into the depths of human emotion.

In short, if you haven't listened to "The Darkness" by Counter yet, you're missing out on a monumental piece of music that will likely go down as one of your favorites. It's a song that satisfies both the head and the heart, and it demands to be played loud. What I love about this track, is that  it reminds me of one of my favorite bands Sybreed.

So… "Turn it up, let the darkness in," as the song itself suggests. Trust me; you won't regret it.
