RINGWORM unleash their 9th studio album: SEEING THROUGH FIRE (Album Review)

BY STEVE THIRIOT

"Seeing Through Fire," the latest offering from Ringworm, a veteran band hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, that has been pummeling the metal and hardcore scene since 1989, is an aural assault of epic proportions. The group, recently signed to Nuclear Blast Records, has concocted an aggressive yet delicately crafted mixture of metal and hardcore elements that are sure to leave their ardent fans satisfied and newcomers thoroughly impressed.

The opening title track, "Seeing Through Fire," bursts out of the gate with an intensely satisfying opening riff that sets the tone for the album's relentless onslaught. "Carved in Stone" follows suit, presenting a well-crafted mix of hardcore and death metal riffs that demonstrates the band's ability to intertwine sub-genres seamlessly.

"No Solace No Quarter No Mercy" stands out as a hardcore anthem featuring excellent guitar and bass work that leaves no room for peace. Up next, "Death Hoax" lives up to its memorable name, with a fast and relentless pace that will leave you breathless.

"Thought Crimes" begins with a punishing tempo set by the excellent opening arrangement, while "Unavoidable Truth" introduces a groove-heavy approach, blending epic solos and righteously brutal vocals, marking a standout moment in the album.

"House of Flies" maintains a wonderful flow and showcases the band's songwriting prowess. The next track, "You Want It To," is a guitar and vocal hardcore assault that leaves no eardrum untouched.

"Mental Decontrol" offers a refreshing change with its drum opening leading into a crushing guitar solo. It descends into a realm of hardcore chaos that showcases the band's controlled harshness. "Power and Blood" follows, delivering precisely what one would crave from a band of this caliber - punishing riffs, aggressive vocals, and unrestrained energy.

Finally, "Playing God" wraps up the album. It begins with clean guitar and spoken word, with timed and well-played guitar solos punctuating the track until the intensity increases towards the end. The band kicks into high gear for one final epic send-off, making it an ideal closing track for such an intense and in-your-face album.

"Seeing Through Fire" by Ringworm is an exemplary testament to the band's ability to blend hardcore and metal elements in a way that feels both fresh and familiar. It showcases the band's musical prowess and songwriting skills, reinforcing their status as stalwarts in the metal/hardcore scene. For fans of this genre, this album is a must-have, a body of work that provides both a refreshing take on the familiar sound and an uncompromising punch of aggression that Ringworm is known for.

Album drops August 18th 2023 via NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS
