"Embalmed in Decay" stands out not just as the third studio album by Berlin-based death metal act, Carnal Tomb, but also as an emblematic and undeniably vital representation of what old-school death metal sounds and feels like.
The album shows that they've not only embraced the signature ferocity and rawness of the genre but have also, with experience, fine-tuned and channeled it into their distinct brand of morbidity.
Intro - A short and somber opening. This track is a prelude for the auditory strike that follows. The Putridarium - The track title itself reeks of decay. With relentless riffs and guttural vocals, it immerses the listener in an atmosphere of impending doom. Cataclysmic Maze - Showcasing the band's ability to blend sheer intensity with intricate arrangements, this track is a labyrinth of sonic chaos, sure to delight fans of the genre. Defiled Flesh - A more straightforward attack, this track is a reminder of the band's roots in the heaviest realms of metal.
Draped in Disgust - The juxtaposition of melodic guitars with devastating rhythms serves as a indication of Carnal Tomb's compositional prowess (My personal favorite track on the album). Cerebral Ingestion - Here, the band explores a more technical side, with nimble fretwork and layered song structure that keeps listeners on the edge of their seats. Morgue Usurper - This song feels like a mini-epic. The journey from its methodical start to the explosive chorus and conclusion is nothing short of spine-chilling.
Embalmed in Decay - The title track stands out, a potential anthem for the album. It encapsulates everything Carnal Tomb represents – raw, unfiltered, and absolutely intense. Eyes of the Chasm - Closing out the album, this is the longest track and it takes its time. Starting with a slow burn, it builds to an overwhelming crescendo, ensuring the album finishes on an undeniable high.

The band's deep understanding of their roots, paired with their continued evolution, results in an album that stands tall in the pantheon of death metal.
